An exceptional country with a magnificent and painful history, beautiful landscapes and rich heritage.

Lithuania was the last country on the European map to adopt Christianity. The last Lithuanian lands turned to the new religion only in the 15th century. Thus, the old traditions of pagan religion can still be found in fairy tales, songs, folklore, customs, burial mounds. Forests, sacred oaks and stones still remind us of old times.

We want to introduce our participants to the surviving old customs and crafts, to show the ethnographic Baltic Lithuanian ancient spirit.

KERNAVE

Nestled on the right bank of the river Neris, Kernavė is a place where history whispers through the hills. One of Lithuania’s oldest cities and its first capital, Kernavė was a thriving political, economic, and military center, home to the sovereigns of Lithuanian lands until 1321. Though archaeological findings reveal human settlements in the area as early as the 9th–7th centuries BCE, it was in the 13th–14th centuries that Kernavė flourished into a true medieval city. With its well-planned streets, residential houses, craftsmen’s workshops, noble residences, and a grand defensive complex of five mounds, it stood as a testament to the early strength of the Lithuanian state. We will step into an open-air museum of Lithuanian heritage and experience the echoes of a medieval city that once stood at the heart of a rising nation.
